Diabetes in the Workplace: Taking Action to Improve Health and Lower Costs

Diabetes in the Workplace: Taking Action to Improve Health and Lower Costs

In honor of World Diabetes Day, Novo Nordisk, JDRF, American Diabetes Association, and other community health care professionals have united to introduce the inaugural Diabetes Awareness Summit at Mall of America from November 13-November 15, 2014.

Because of The Action Group’s commitment to prevention and optimal treatment of diabetes, Novo Nordisk has asked us to bring employers together to talk about workplace solutions. As such, we will be hosting an employer diabetes summit, titled “Diabetes in the Workplace: Taking Action to Improve Health and Lower Costs” on November 13 to complement the public events. The summit is open to members and non-members and there is no cost to attend. Deepak Patel, Pharm.D., will be the keynote speaker. We will also hear from employers, vendors and others about successful workplace programs that contribute to improving health and lowering costs.

Over the course of the three days, there will be celebrity speakers, booths to promote healthy living, cooking ideas from award-winning chefs, educational programs taught by the leading diabetes educators in the state, and industry-leading educational resources to motivate and help those living with diabetes.

You can even take part in helping set a new world record for the most people simultaneously tying their shoes on Saturday, November 15th at 9 a.m. in the Rotunda. Called “Lacing up for Diabetes,” each participant will be given a pair of shoelaces that represent World Diabetes Day. Officials from Guinness will be on hand to certify the event.
